New AED for Tawa

Junior Club Captain (Kathryn Henshaw) with the newly installed AED

As a result of successfully re-certifying for the NZ Football Qualmark standard, Tawa AFC received a new AED (automated external defibrillator).  The Club sought grant funding for an external case and last month (August) in-conjunction with the Wellington City Council installed the AED at its Clubrooms at Redwood Park.

The AED has been installed in a locked cabinet outside the Clubrooms and is available 24/7 for use by any person in the community needing an AED when someone is suffering a cardiac arrest.

To open the cabinet and retrieve the AED, call 111 – Ambulance for the access code.
To see where other AED’s are located in your area, download the AED locator app to your phone.

Life Membership for Mike Wood

Paul Houliston (Capital Football Board Chair) congratulates Mike Wood (left) on being awarded Life Membership of Capital Football.

Capital Football would like to congratulate Mike Wood on being awarded Life Membership of Capital Football at this week’s AGM.

Mike has dedicated over 50 years to football in the Wellington region, joining Stop Out in the 1960’s before moving to Upper Hutt and then on to Seatoun.

He is best known for his time with Tawa AFC where he started coaching junior teams in the early 80’s before becoming involved with the seniors and on the committee.

Mike has held a number of roles at Tawa AFC and in 1999 he became President, where he still holds the position.

Kath Henshaw, Tawa Junior Club Captain, spoke of the time and energy Mike has contributed to at the club, where is still puts in a good 20 hours per week.

Recently Mike received a Civic award for his contribution to sport and recreation in Tawa.

Paul Houliston, Board Chair, thanked Mike for all of his work, and mentioned his time as a committee member with Team Wellington.
